Hi , my name is kari

Hi,my name is kari and i am a newbie goat herder. My husband of 25+ years and i live in upstate ny for now, though we are planning to head south soon ...all animals in tow, lol. we have dogs and birds and house bunnies, laying chickens amd now goats!I have had my two girls about a month now. My almost 2 yo, marigold ( doubletree cheddar da biscuit) is pregnant and due sometime next month.she is a ff, and i have finally earned her trust and can pet her as of 3 days ago. My virgin doeling, dahlia ( doubletree datura blue) will be one next month. She fell for my back scratching charms after only a week! I am raising them all naturally now....after a bout with barber pole worms and one dose of moxidectin ... before i was able to get them to eat the herbal dewormer . we got our girls for milking as we had been buying raw cows milk for the last two years. I LOVE my sweet girls, and am a little nervous at my lack of experience and knowledge so am trying to learn all i can. I'm sure i will have lots of questions! Please have patience with me ;) . I also am going to try to " milk through" not planning on breeding every year if at all possible. I know myself that it will be terribly hard to sell the kids. Thanks for reading all this, lol!

  • Welcome!

  • thank you Glenna and Rachel!

  • Welcome.  I wish your kidding to go as easily as my Summer's last year as a FF and this year also.  It is a goat owner's dream to have an easy kidding and super good mom and the best thing that can happen for you and your little girl.

  • Welcome!

  • thank you all for the warm welcome! I have a LOT to research before my girl kids!!!

  • Hello from North Alabama, welcome to life of goats.

    Careful, they are highly addictive.

  • Welcome! You'll find LOTS of helpful information here! One tip: use the white search bar at the top on the right to search for threads on questions you have. I've had my goats for one year and just had my second kidding (2 more to go this year!). I have found this site invaluable because it is about my breed of goat and not just all goats. Good luck with your new adventure!

  • Welcome to the group!
