Hello from NE Georgia!! :0)

Hello everyone.  I live in UGA Bulldog territory!  :)  I have done some research on the different types of goats.  My aunt has acquired 4 Boer does which was the final spark to get my goat fire burning. LOL  I decided I didn't want to start off with the Mighty Boers.  I will eventually, but right now, small is better.  ;)  I have always had a preference for the smaller things in life.  The ND's stole my heart from the beginning.  I bought a 4 month old buck on Friday, then yesterday I got a 2 year old doe.  Our buck's name is "Whiskey" and our doe is "Sugar".  We have the initial pen made.  My goal for today is to make an easy access gate for us, and some fun stuff for them to climb on.

I am married and have 6 children ages 2 (almost 3) to 14 year old twin boys.  My 13 year old daughter has a baby mini pot belly pig, too.  I am waiting for the "milk".  I plan on getting another doe before the end of this year.  I'm very excited about our new family additions and all the possibilities that are coming with them!

  • So when is your baby due?  I can definitely understand not wanting to fight with any more than you have to!  Do you get a substantial amount of milk from 2 does?  Basically, enough for your family?

Wow, oldest of 11!!  2 years ago we milked 2 goats but the most we got from them was a quart for a couple of days and it was such a fight!  So this year is our first "successful" year in milk.  :-)  We are milking 2 again this year.  It was going to be three, but one of our goats, one from our first year, just would not settle down and let us milk her.  We had to hold her leg every single time and her utter was very hard to milk.  Having 6 kids and being pregnant, I was not willing to deal with that, so I sold her.  Milking is so much more pleasant now!  :-P

Hi Anna!  I moved to GA almost 5 years ago.  I have NO desire to live anywhere else!  :)  I may love small things, but I never seem to DO small things LOL  :D  I am the oldest of 11.  I'm anxiously awaiting "milking"!!  How many are you milking in your first year?

Hi!  My mom used to live in Ga.  It's gorgeous out there. We have 6 kids (soon to be 7) ages 1 to almost 13.  :-)  This is our first year with milk and it is very exciting!
  • I was reading about her little goats.  I would have never thought these little guys would be able to do that.  Definitely shows how "little" I know!

Thanks Kare!  My son wants Boers to train them to pull a wagon LOL  I've never had ND milk that I know of, but I am always willing to try something new, especially when I read all the good things that I have about it!  :0)

  • Hi Janel.  I was originally trying to find baby girls, but then I found "Sugar" and she is almost 3.  I couldn't pass her up.  I did find someone who is selling her does that are due in Sept.  I'll wait a little bit and see how things go here, you never know!  LOL  I have done a lot of research on these little ones, so I'll work with my little knowledge base and hopefully learn more as we go!  :0)

Welcome to the group.  I too am new to goats and LOVE my ND..  I keep looking at some older does already in milk, so that we can start getting milk instead of having to wait a whole year before I will feel comfortable breeding our sweet girls.  Trying to talk my hubby into it... LOL Welcome...

Welcome! These little goats are addictive. Nine years ago I just wanted a couple of does to make cheese. Today, we're milking 13!
