First mini-Nubian kids

These are really bad photos, and I'll add more when I get some better ones. I just had to share some pics of my new mini-nubian doelings. I am in love! They are so cute and sweet. I am really going to enjoy watching them grow up! At least one of them is staying here with us. :)

  • Just adorable - I want more details too as I have a Nubian breeder in town who might.....be interested in this. Some just don't like the mixing but those are way too cute!

  • Oh, I hope so too!  I wonder how long until I know... :)

  • They are so cute! I hope the ears stay floppy for you. Most pics of first gen that I've seen don't have very floppy ears at all, and some have airplane ears.

  • They are first generation.  Born April 18.  The first pics were when they were one day old.  These pics are today, three days old.  I've heard that it can take more generations to get the more Nubian like ears too.  So far, these girls have floppy ears that are just a bit smaller and they have a bit more control over them than their mama (who is indeed the Nubian).  I do have the father as well.   I forgot to weigh the doelings at birth, but at one day they were 5 and 5.75 lbs.   The little silvery doeling with brown legs was having so much fun, it was impossible to get a good picture of her. :)

  • Congratulations! We want details! :) Are these first generation? When were they born? I wonder if their ears won't hang down as much as they get older?

Julia, when making minis, you should always cross a ND buck with a larger doe. Using a standard size buck with a ND doe could result in birthing problems. I've heard of accidental breedings that turned out okay, but then I have also heard of people purposely breeding a large buck to small doe that wound up with dead kids and a dead doe.

  • Aw so cute! Is your doe a nubian or a dwarf? Do you have the buck-daddy too? I've thought about mini-nubians a lot. I heard that the first generation often doesn't have the droopy ears. Is that true to your knowledge?
