First freshener cut on teat

I have a first freshener with 7 & 1/2 week kids. I separated the kids last night and noticed today that she has a small 1/3 inch cut on the upper part of her teat. I plan on milking her to relieve the pressure but I don't want to cause more damage to her teat. I sprayed it with vetricyn today. Is there anything else that I need to do?

  • Definitely continue milking her out, not simply relieving pressure, or her milk supply will plummet. If you have pure lanolin, that's great for helping teats heal. A cut that small is not a big deal. I'd continue letting her kids nurse.
