Doe has worms I can see!

What kind would this be? I am giving her a dewormer today. Her eyelids are pink but not dark. She pooped big clumpy poo with mucusy stuff and I could see worms in it! They're not big (like dog worms) but long and skinny and very small.

  • You can look up each drug here to see how long it is present in the milk:

  • Yes. Just responded.

  • It won't hurt the kids directly to have the milk. After all, if the kids had worms, you could give them those dewormers. However, there is a small amount of the drug in the milk, so if you give it to kids, any worms in their bodies could become resistant to that dewormer (cydectin/moxidectin and praziquantel). If other dewormers work on your farm, then it might not be a big deal to have a few resistant worms.

  • You could also freeze it and used it later to make soap too.

  • Should I (would you?) keep her milk and freeze it for kids later? She is producing really well right now and I hate to waste her milk by throwing it away while she's on milk withdrawal.

  • If I had only waited 'til I got your response... (doh!). Oh well, I guess I won't be milking her for a couple of weeks. She's been sold and it will be a couple of weeks before her new mama picks her and her kids up. I was teaching her how to milk and she's been doing great. <sigh>

  • The moxidectin half of Quest Plus has a withdrawal of 2-3 weeks depending upon what dosage you used:

Unfortunately, I don't know if there is any research about milk withdrawal in the praziquantel. It's a horse drug. The meat withdrawal is 30 days in the US; and in the UK, it is not allowed for use in sheep being raised for human consumption. The label also says it should not be used in horses producing milk for human consumption. I have no idea what to tell you, although I do know there are some drugs found in goat milk for up to 4 months.

  • Oh my gosh I thought I was gonna lose it! Thank you so much! She didn't seem to be feeling bad either and rechecking her eyelids they looked perfectly fine.

Is there any milk withdrawal necessary?
