Disbudding

I have searched the archives, I swear, but I still cannot get a for-sure answer...do I need the X30 or the X50?

(I am in that "approximately one month til my first kids starting coming" freak-out stage!)

Thanks! 8-)

  • Thanks Deborah!

  • If the iron isn't glowing red, that could be your problem. It doesn't really make much sense to say you have to do it for a certain number of seconds because if the iron isn't hot enough, it takes much longer to do a good job. Some of those irons that have goat extension tips never really get hot enough.

  • I have had trouble with this one. The vet comes out to do the disbuding as I am a sort of weenie. The girls always come out clean on their heads but the wethers and bucks wow end up with the scurs. The vet has me count for 8 seconds. I am going to check into the Rheinhart X-30 and see what happens on this go around.

  • And I do wish that Ning had a better search engine. I've tried to find old posts with no luck in the past. It's very frustrating.

Good luck with kidding! It's my favorite thing about living out here!

  • We use the Rheinhart X-30 with the large tip. I've seen even does get scurs when people use the pygmy tip. It just isn't big enough to get the entire horn bud.
