Cloudy Eye from cheat grass

A few days ago I noticed my doe had a watery, cloudy looking eye and after a closer look I seen the tip of a cheat grass sticking out. So I pulled it out but she still had a cloudy looking eye. I figured it would go away within a day or two after removing the sticker but it is still cloudy. It isn't watery but not looking good. I was wondering if anyone has had this happen and if it is something that might take a little while to heal? I would hate for her to look like that forever. It is a bit freaky looking! I haven't put anything in it but was thinking about putting some Vetericyn drops in it. Hope you have good news for me.  I've attached a picture so you can see what I am talking about.

  • Giving an injection is not recommended for eye infections because very little of the drug would actually get to the eye. Antibiotic ointment made for eyes or an injectable drug squirted into the eye is what most people use. And as I said in an earlier post, many eye infections go away with no treatment, especially when they're caused by a foreign body in the eye.

  • This is what I read to use for pink eye, which is what I suspected. The entire eye was cloudy
white. I cant remember the source right now, but I had done a search at the time. We use it on humans too. It wouldn't hurt as much as a shot and for less time!
  • A week isn't really exceptionally fast, especially if it's just one eye, which usually means it was just an infection caused by injury or something got into that one eye. The idea of putting vinegar in the eye also sounds painful. By law, anything labelled as vinegar is at least 5% acid. I did a quick search online for "putting vinegar in eyes," and the first five sources I found all talked about using vinegar in various ways, but they all said to avoid getting into your eyes. Do you have a source for this idea?

  • Some people will do that, but when it is just one distinct little spot like that, I don't.
  • I won't do anything for now but will keep an eye on it. I was just really worried it was something permanent. I do have some Biomycin on hand and could give her a couple drops in the eye if you think that will help. However I always prefer not having to medicate if possible. Thanks for the info!
  • That is an infection. Eye infections in goats uually take a couple of weeks to go away, and people argue about whether or not treating with antibiotics do any good, as it always seems to take about two weeks regardless of what you do. It probably depends on whether it is a viral or bacterial infection, as antibiotics only work on bacteria.
